Hello friends,
Here is my page for the Day 3 prompt: watermelon. I was actually intended to paint a watermelon on this page but then went in a totally different direction!
It a bid to use up some of the paper stash I pulled out any papers that reminded me of watermelon colours. Then I cut them all up into 1/4 inch strips using my paper trimmer. That took some time!
I was going to do it directly onto the page but ended up doing it on a separate page so I could cut it up.
After I stuck it down in my journal, I cut out the quote using this dark blue card and this set of very skinny letters from waffle Flower. (It’s an old, retired set but one of my favourites.)
Do you recognise the quote? You get extra points if you can name the movie it comes from! I added black splatters to represent the watermelon seeds, but then I also added gold and white splatters just because I like it.
So I wanted to link this page to Art Journal Journey’s current challenge: When We Were Young, hosted by Chris from Pearshaped Crafting, as this movie and and the quote are all about growing up and coming of age in a time when things were simpler in a lot of ways. I use to love that movie when it came out – which was when all of us were a lot younger. I had to look it up but it was released in 1987 and set in 1963. And of course the movie is DIRTY DANCING!
My page for the Day 4 prompt: Sea glass
For this page I painted some sea glass and seaweed using watercolours (just three colours – turquoise, green gold and magenta mixed to get the colours I wanted.) Then I scribbed around the edged with a dark blue neocolour 2 and activated it with a water brush.
I also used the same neocolour to paint a scrap of watercolour paper to write my quote on with a white pen.
And both pages together.

Making that watermelon page was a whole lot of work, wasn’t it? It did come out great and you certainly nailed the watermelon idea. In fact, making this page with watermelon colored stripes was much smarter than just drawing a watermelon. I don’t remember that quote from Dirty Dancing, but then I am terrible with quotes.
