Hi Friends,
Life continues to be very cold up here, and tonight is going to be even colder with a low of -8C !!! I’m finding it really hard to motivate myself to go up into the even colder art room and do anything arty, not only is my motivation lacking but my fingers are too cold to function lol. Here’s how the window looked this morning when I went in there – that is ice on the INSIDE of the window btw. It made pretty patterns on the glass and look I can’t even see the street anymore, but then also no one can see in either, a bit like a bathroom window lol.
I have a barometer in the house near the back door, it tells me the temperature outside and inside as well as the usual barometer stuff. Here’s what it said this morning…
Ignore the date and time, I never bothered to set it.
Today’s Art . . .
Today’s art is a page for one of the December journalling challenges, the people running it are doing day 14 today but since I am way behind with everything, I decided to start with Day 10. Yes I said START with day 10, I haven’t done days 1-9 yet either, but like I said, IT’S REALLY COLD. Anyway I thought I would make an effort and start this morning. I chose day 10 because the animal for that day was the owl and I thought I could scan my owl journal page from October, scale it down and use it in my #dephemerember journal.
The original sized owl is on the left, and then I scaled it down to half that size to use on this page. The challenge hosts also give out an animal card to use or not in your journals so I wanted to use that one too, and then @luiseheinzl also gave other free printables including an owl envelope and the other host, Barbara at @49dragonflies gave a leaf printable since day 10’s prompts were leaves/envelope (the animal is optional).
The page started to take on a brown and orange colour scheme which was not planned but just seemed to happen and then I found this soap box for some handmade chocolate and orange soap so that had to go on the page too since that was now my palette! The little owl at the top is the envelope printable.
I didn’t use it in the way it is intended but I did make it into an envelope and tucked the free leaves printables underneath him.
I’ve been hoarding this Schmincke box for such a long time and have almost thrown it out on several occasions but I am pleased to finally find a place for him on this page with all his other owl buddies.
Here’s a look at the page with all the little bits opened up – inside the envelope on the top left is a little card with the number 10 stamped on it and inside the Schmincke card is the owl printable for today’s challenge and underneath that is a Pukka After Dinner teabag sachet though it can’t be seen in these photos.
There are also several different types of paper scraps, teabag paper, tea tags, book pages, and finally some gold acrylic splatters to finish off the page.
Hoping to get more pages done this week, probably won’t “catch up” as such, but it would be nice to fill my journals up a little more than just the one page haha.

Owls are well done.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Ohhh I love this owl. It would be perfect for FFO. You are such a wonderful artist. Try and stay warm.
