Happy New Month!
As it is the very first day of the month, I am excited to share my DT inspiration project for September at More Than Words with you.
This month’s challenge is all about making your inner child happy and I’m sure it’s probably obvious what would make mine happy! LOL
There’s a few ways of interpreting this challenge, between letting your inner child play and fulfilling your inner child’s dreams. I always wanted a cat, and despite several attempts, I was never allowed to keep one. I made several attempts, believe me!, people gave me kittens, but my mum always sent them right back. She didn’t want an animal in the house which was strange as she had FIVE cats when she was a kid, all at the same time!!! So here is my inner child in her happy place surround by cats.
For maximum happiness I think about seven or eight cats should do it, although I do follow some cat rescues on IG and one of them has 350+ cats in residence, all roaming around free range, not caged – can you imagine? Not only that but they are open to the public for visits – my inner child is jumping for joy at the prospect! I would totally be there every week but I am a long way from MN. All three of my previous little cat family members came from a similar sanctuary in Oxfordshire. It was a wonderful place, cats everywhere, but less than 100 of them. The first cat I adopted from there had been returned twice, and the second time with a broken leg and pregnant. She needed a good home, I gave her one. Then I went back six months later and picked up two kittens on Halloween, they were the sweetest cats I have ever met, although when I was there that first time a cat wrapped itself around my neck and tried to get inside my coat. I instantly wanted to adopt her! Unfortunately she was already adopted and just waiting to be picked up but they said she never reacted to anyone like that before. She was probably meant to be my cat. 🙁
My page also has a Halloween vibe to it because I am already in Halloween mode but also because as a kid, my Halloween costume was always a witch (very easy and cheap costume to put together.) There are a few other symbols from childhood, viewfinder, slides, film negative, doily, all antiquated now but they make cool elements to round out a page.
I am also linking to Art Journal Journey’s “Anything Goes” theme hosted by Aimeslee from Paper Paisleys Art Adventures. I know I am probably in the minority because AG challenges are very popular, but they are not my favourite, mostly because I like a prompt to spark ideas rather than doing anything I want. In those scenarios my creative brain shuts down and I usually end up doing nothing LOL. On this occasion I already had a page made so I am able to link it up.
Oh and btw for any readers out there, I just finished a wonderful book, that I thoroughly recommend…-
I hope you can join us this month. Let me know what you think in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!Ingredients

Art Journal Journey – Anything Goes – September theme
Love your page although without anything on it I would have guessed ‘cats’ came into the picture very strongly.
Loved your story about the immense number of cats someone has and the sanctuary you went to – that story brought tears to my eyes. I would have had to catnap that cat. She obviously wanted to be with you.
Are you still on crutches? That’s a long time.
I’ll post on AJJ later tonight.
Hugs, Neet xx
I hope you find and use some old prompts to keep journaling for us at AJJ this month. I very much like this page with all the die cuts, some of which I have, too. And your story is fun, although I wouldn’t like that many cats! lol xoxo
I actually find AG pages a;llow me the freedom to create something I would not normally make. Sorry iif Aimeslee’s theme at AJJ gave you pause.. I sure love the cats you chose. I am definitely a cat lover, too. Thanks for sharing this, Elle.
I love your inner child page Elle.. I’ve had a few cats, and I miss having one. My 2 both came from a shelter. My cat Leo actually arrived in New Hampshire from California as his owner was moving to Japan. I wonder what that story was and why they drove across the country to bring them to New Hampshire. Your repetition of cats reminds me of the cat Emmie was had too. I like how you did that. Thanks for joining Aimeslee’s challenge. And thanks for the book recommendation too. I’ve added it to my “list”.. I hope you’re having a good weekend, and I’m hoping I can find some inner child to link up to More Than Words since I missed it last month. hugs-Erika
