Happy Friday!

I hope your Friday is going well and that you have something fun planned for the weekend!  Wanderlust 2025 early bird pricing also went on sale yesterday and I had already decided, like with so many other things, not to do it next year, but then I also said that last year, haha, and then I look at the schedule, and the teachers, and the new format, and the fact that it’s their 10th anniversary, and gotta admit, I am tempted….

Anyway it is very exciting here because  – the sun is shining and a top of 23C is expected!!!  Yes that is nothing to get excited about usually but we have been having a lot of rain and temps around 12-13C so yes, as soon as I finish writing this post I am going outside (along with everyone else in Scotland) to get some much needed Vitamin D.  Miss Lily already has her place in the sun and she is not moving (until the sun moves around to the back and then she will be in her afternoon spot).

So here is my page for today.  It was made with a couple of challenges in mind – it is the eighth monthly page for the Scrappy8 challenge over on Instagram, where this month’s prompt is “tear down and buiild up” and also for this week’s Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, where the prompt is “recycle it” so how could I not join in both of those!  I do love a bit of recycling!  I used an (empty) Felix cat food box, dismantled it, dissected it, die-cut it, reconstructed it into a page (two pages actually) and then used the die cuts to decorate it.

Everything you see here with the exception of the Worn Wallpaper background papers, was made with the Felix cat food box.  The box forms the basis of my page, one side of the box.

And then all the little diecut elements were also cut from the box. I had enough cardboard left over to make a second page which I will use later.  I *did* really want to make use of those little black paw prints and the eye-shaped openings but it was not to be.  You can see on the right that I even cut holes in the wallpaper so I could have them on the page but it just wasn’t working the way I wanted it to so I ended up covering them up.

Here’s a look at some of the diecutting I did using the box.  A list of the dies used is at the end of the post.  Felix is just a black and shades of grey image on the kraft cardboard so I coloured him in using some paint/gel pens in his usual colours.

Miss Lily took an interest in this skull die for some unknown reason.  She was really intrigued with the smell (what smell?) and then started trying to bite it with her tiny kitten teeth. No dies were harmed during this process!  LOL  Lily’s teeth were OK too btw.

Everything was diecut from the cardboard box except for these white pieces which were cut from watercolour paper.  It wasn’t my original plan, I had started colouring various bits and pieces yellow and orange but then decided against all that colour and went with plain white.  I used a wreath die to cut the wreath a few times and then all the little elements that go with it, and then coloured some dark brown and kept the rest of them as kraft.  The pumpkin die actually has three main layers (it’s one of those colorize ones) but I only used two for the brown and white pumpkins and used the third kraft layer as separate pumpkins.

And just in case you were wondering about the other kitties, here is Mr G enjoying one of the scratchboards I made for them for their birthday in July.  I made two of these big 50 x 50cm scratches using recycled cardboard boxes.  The bigger size was deliberate as Mr G is almost twice the size of his sister Miss Lily, so he needs the extra room!

I am also linking to Art Journal Journey’s “Anything Goes” theme hosted by Aimeslee from Paper Paisleys Art Adventures. I know some of the people at AJJ love a bit of recycling too so hopefully you will enjoy this page!

Wow, Elle, you really recycled! Die cutting included! Never even thought about doing that before. It’s pretty cool bcause you’ve made a very cool page. Love how that kitty is peeking out of the curled card board. Thanks so much for sharing with AJJ and I hope you are continuing to heal well. xoxo

Hi There – who can resist a Felix box, or Halloween? Love how you completely recycled this and made a fab book of two pages. Love it all but the torn paper bit with the cat peeking out really catches the eye.
Miss Lily certainly knows how to live the perfect cats life – sunny spots all day and lots of lovely lounging about.
Take care on those crutches
Hugs, Neet xx

You are the queen of recycled cardboard. O am in total awe.I I have made that peel back technique before, but never as well as yours. This is a very autumn and fun entry. It’s a stunning entry and perfect for Aimeslee’s theme at AJJ.

Oh that’s such a clever piece – and well done for re-using that cat box. I love the little cat peeping out saying Boo and how lovely to see your gorgeous cat. I’m a cat lover too and have a 13 year old ginger girl and a little 2 year old rescue who after 2 months is still very nervous but we are giving her lots of time to find her paws and lots of treats and cuddles when she lets us. Thanks for playing along with us at Creative Artiste Mixed Media – hope to see you again next month.

This is a great page Elle. I really like the brown, and not orange pumpkins. I might have to steal that idea as I’m starting to put together a Halloween journal. I love how you recycled too, and that curl away paper looks great around the kitty face. That is so like a kitty too, to peek out of something. Enjoy your beautiful weather. We had some lovely weather the last couple of days, and at this time of year you know it’s not going to last for weeks and weeks. Thanks for joining Aimes;ee’s AJJ challenge, and happy weekend too. hugs-Erika
