Happy New Month!

Here’s to a creative October!  I have so much to do this month,or rather so much I want to do, and now that’s it’s October 1st, I’m not sure I can get it all done in time.  I planned to make a lot of home decor for Halloween but I am leaving it a bit late.  I am also watching the maples in the garden to see when they change colour – they are all different colours to begin with – but my neighbour still has poppies in bloom, so it might be a while yet.  Yesterday something was delivered in a small box from Art From the Heart (exciting for me) and as you can see it was very popular with the kittens – there was even a queue as Mr G waited for his turn, but Miss Lily had no intention of giving it up!

Today’s Art . . .

And now, as it is the very first day of the month, I am excited to share my DT inspiration project for October at More Than Words with you.

This month’s challenge is all about discovering and portraying your SPIRIT ANIMAL on your pages.  My Spirit Animal is a BLACK CAT. Are you surprised?  Probably not!

You might already know what your spirit animal is or what you would like it to be, but just in case you don’t, here are some links to some Spirit Animal quizzes:

Spirit Animal quiz 1 (Mind Body Green site)
Spirit Animal quiz 2 (Riddle site)
Spirit Animal quiz 3 (Spirit Animal site)

I am still using my junk journal made from packaging so for this page, as I wanted to make a watercolour background, I created it on a separate piece of watercolour paper and then stapled it to my page. I wanted to use Autumnal colours of oranges and pinks and then black around the edges, perhaps a little spooky too for this month!  Then I drew and painted the black kitty on another piece of watercolour paper, fussy cut it and glued it down on the page.

To finish off the page I wrote some of the characteristics associated with black cat as a spirit animal (or perhaps cats generally) around the edges with a gold pen. In the photo above I tried to angle the page so the light hit the gold writing so it could be better seen.

I am also linking to Art Journal Journey’s “Autumn Colours and Inspiration” theme hosted by Alison/CraftyTrog s Art Adventures. Hopefully my Autumnal sky background qualifies though it ended up being more purple on the outside than originally planned!

I hope you can join us this month.  Let me know what you think in the comments below.   As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!Ingredients

Oh wow, Elle! I absolutely love your awesome page that you made in your junk journal. Your cat is exceptional and I especially like the amazing background ,which makes her pop off the page! You used Autumn colors beautifully here. Thank you! Hugs, Sharon

Love that yours is a black cat, I would never have guessed. (wink wink) and your page showing him off to us is lovely. Great background and yes, I can rad the words scattered about around him.
I expect we will see one with a withy hat on before too long …

Ha ha, I love the queue for the box. Kitties are so funny , but they don’t often think they are. Dogs are funny too but most of them just accept they are good balls. Grin. That’s a cool challenge at More than Words. I will have to think about that one even though I know what I call my spirit animal. (Not a dog either-grin). Thanks for linking up this fun kitty to Alison’s challenge at AJJ. It’s perfect for Autumn Colors and Inspiration. hugs-Erika
