Happy Sunday!

Hope your weekend has been good so far.  We are having cold and weird weather, unseasonal or too early in my opinion.  Yesterday we had very heavy rain, wind and then some bonus hail stones.  Poor Miss P was outside and I saw her running for the door but as I didn’t get there quick enough she jumped into her little outdoor cat kennel and refused to risk running the whole one metre from there to the back door until there was a gap between the hail showers!

I just discovered today that I was the winner of Creative Artiste’s Challenge #108.  That was a very nice surprise as things have been a bit “not fun” lately, still on crutches, waiting for referrals, appointments etc. so it was nice to have something good happen.  I won for this page made with a recycled cat food box.

Today’s art . . .

Today I am sharing my October art journal page.  I had been die cutting some autumn leaves for something else and thought I would use any leftover leaves on my page BUT in the end I used NONE of the actual leaves and opted for using the negative leftover pieces instead.  Here are my backgrounds I made for the leaves and the leaves that I cut out (and didn’t use on my page!)

Instead of using the leaves I’d cut, I ended up using the leftovers, and also cutting the cats and letters out of some recycled cardboard (bookmarks and part of a box).

So I took the diecutting leftovers I’d made from the Distress inked background and glued them around my page, and then I collected all the other diecut elements I made from the above recycled cardboard so I could play around with them and see where they could go.  I also found these leftover pumpkins from the Felix Says Boo page.  The letters and numbers are cut from Halloween Bold Text and Alphanumeric Shadow but I didn’t use the shadow part.

Here’s a closer look at the left side of the spread:  I wrote in the important dates for this month – Black Cat Day on the 29th and Halloween.

…And a closer look at the right side of the spread: I added black and white spatters using acrylic inks in black and white, and I added little faces to the small cats using a white gel pen.

I am joining Alison/Craftytrog with her theme of “Autumn Colours and Inspirationon Art Journal Journey and I am also joining Creative Artiste this month, links and list of media used at the end of the post.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.   As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!Ingredients

A gorgeous calendar spread for your journal Elle. The leftover card from your leaf cutting is still stunning with it’s rich, earthy colours and is a fabulous contrast with the pretty purple. The grinning cat faces, cheeky pumpkins and graceful cats all add such fabulous details around the page. Enjoy Black Cat Day on the 29th.
Thank you for joining in with our October challenge “Anything Mixed Media Goes” at Creative Artiste Mixed Media. Good luck! x

The left over leaves work amazing on this. I love how the orange and purple just randomly end-with where you have the leaves. It makes a very cool border. And congrats on winning at Creative Artiste. I was excited with a top 3. Seems we both had some admired art-very cool. It’s been chilly here too, and yesterday we had rain all day but it didn’t quite bring down as many leaves as I expected it would.. Tomorrow wind will do that I bet. Love your calendar, and thanks for sharing it with ALison’s challenge. Have a super week ahead too Elle. hugs-Erika
