Today I am happy to share with you another page from my small handmade art journal. I have to say that I am enjoying working in this smaller size, which surprises me as usually I work on much larger pages because I feel like I don’t have enough space. This seems to be contrary to how other people feel and large blank surfaces are daunting, I look at it and think that there no room! How will I fit it all in? I find this with cardmaking too, those tiny American sized cards are just too small for me, and I make very large cards.
So this art journal page was made as my DT inspiration project for the October challenge over on More Than Words Challenge Blog.
To add some texture I collaged scrunched up tissue paper over the whole background.
Once that was all dry, I started to add paint starting with dark colours.
Then I added some gorgeous blues, trying to keep the area for my moon untouched.
So I have this scene building, moon, sky, ground, but what to put on the ground? I found this leftover gift wrap from Christmas and cut out the trees and the deer, and I still have some strips of book paper left from August projects, so I added that in too.
The gift wrap was green but it doesn’t matter, I’m still using it.
A bit more paint added to blend in the book paper and the trees and deer. I really like this strange lightness that has appeared along the top of the ground. I don’t actually know what happened but I like it!
Here’s a close up of the ground. It reminds me of distressed denim and looks really cool.
Can’t have a night sky without stars, so here’s a closer look at my stars. The lines from the scrunched up tissue remind me of a star chart or constellation map.
Finished page. I love how my Christmas trees seem to be glowing now.
Art Journal Journey’s new October Challenge is all about lines – does my star map in the sky count as lines in the context of the challenge? It’s what I thought about while I was writing the post, so we’ll see 🙂
