Cheers to 80 Years Birthday Card Story

I don’t make a lot of age birthday cards because sometimes people don’t like to be reminded of how old they are lol but my sister told me that a family friend was turning 80 and so she had bought an 80 card and some flowers to give her from us.  This she told me the day before we were about to visit my mother, whose friend it is who is having the birthday, so that left me with a dilemma as we don’t usually exchange birthday cards but this was a special birthday so I would have to come up with a card very quickly (or run out and buy one from a shop but that’s not an option!). So on the morning of the visit, I locked myself in my craft studio, to brainstorm a quick card.  I looked around at the bits and pieces I had created recently and not used yet and discovered this…

You can read about it in this post about #everydaybouquet thank you cards.  I didn’t use it in the end which meant that it was available to use now!  Yay!  I also had some of these rosettes leftover from this birthday card too, so how to tie them together?

Firstly I took the small dot stamp from the Dotted Fill-in set and stuck it on the end of my pen, and used Delicata Gold Glimmer ink to colour all the dots from white to gold.

Then I took a piece of Gina K gold cardstock and folded it in half to make the card base.  This piece already had an inch chopped off it so the cardstock piece was 10 x 8.5, making the card 5 x 8.5 once it was scored and folded.  Then I cut the purple and gold dotted card down to fit on the front

I stamped the inside of the card with the Cheers to 80 Years sentiment from Notable Numbers with Onyx Black.  I cut out 80 also from Notable Numbers in shiny gold card to match the rosette.  I also cut out some fringe samples from Wild Wisteria cardstock using the fringe die from the Fringe Frenzy Kit by Concord and 9th.

Because the card base is metallic card, I thought the sentiment needed something more than just ink to make it stand out, so I popped it back in my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and stamped it again with Versamark, and then applied Black Glint embossing powder and heat set it.

 

Now it’s really started to take shape.  I needed to add more fringe to the top and bottom of the card just to balance it out.

Last thing to do is make a matching envelope with my envelope punch.

And here are the finished cards!  It’s not exactly subtle lol but hey it is a very special birthday… or is it?

So when my sister told me that it was 80 it didn’t sit right with me as I seemed to remember them being 77 a couple of years ago and ten years younger than another friend of the family, so I would have thought they were turning 79, but was I paying that much attention?  After all, we didn’t exchange cards, didn’t seem them very often, and could quite possibly have lost track.  I asked my sister how she knew and she told me that my mother had announced this information.  I asked if she was sure?  How does she know?  Does she have it written down?  Well long story short, it is NOT an 80th birthday, they are 79 lol and luckily we were able to find this out with a bit of sleuthing before giving them the cards, which would have been very embarrassing all round.  We were both racking our brains trying to think if we knew anyone who was turning 80 but we got nothing. Now all we have to do is fill these cards away till next year and remember to deliver them then!
