After my Crafty Long Weekend, I was really missing getting my craft on, and I ended up watching this new video from Jennifer McGuire that sent me back into the craft studio for um… a few hours.
In the video, Jennifer demonstrated the technique of using baby wipes and reinkers to create quick and easy backgrounds (for cards or just for the fun of it!) by swiping. There are a few other videos on this technique which has been around for a while but something about all that colour, the ease of the technique, and my post-crafty-long-weekend-hangover, made it the perfect project to get me back upstairs.
The method is simple, all you need is some baby wipes, elastic bands, something to wrap them around (I used an acrylic block) and some kind of reinkers (I used Distress Oxide reinkers) and some kind of paper/card to swipe them onto (I used white card and watercolour paper). Fold the baby wipes and wrap them around the edge of the acrylic block and secure with the elastic band. Then go to town with your favourite reinkers like so…
All you have to do is pull, drag, or swipe the edge across your paper to make wonderful colourful and very quick and easy backgrounds. Jennifer noted in the video that a little goes a long way and that you can make multiple backgrounds from just a little ink – she was right. I made over 40 and I just couldn’t stop! This is really addictive!!
I started by dragging across portrait and landscape oriented cards, then I did some zigzags and rainbows. After I’d enough of rainbow colours, I changed to some blue/greens and some pinks/purples.
I also had a few experiments with making checked and plaid type backgrounds before my baby wipes got a bit too dirty to keep going.
These will make fantastic backgrounds for cards and journals and also for die cutting. I’m going to try some of them with some alphabet dies for sure, once I get my next project completed.
