Hey crafty friends! I have yet another birthday card to share today, this time the colour scheme is blue blue blue. This one will be a birthday card for a friend – I told you August is such a busy month!
The Finished Card
This is another easel style card, using Prima papers (Flirty Fleur) and featuring a mixed media background and some handmade paper flowers similar to the ones from this post. I did actually try out the big pink flower in a deeper colour on this background and I was so close to going with that, but there was something that jarred with me, once I started on the hummingbird, so I decided to make more flowers instead.
The Start of the Card
This card uses a similar technique to the previous cards as I like this format for this style of card. I used liquid acrylics, and random black stamping, and paint splatters. As I said above, I planned to use the biggest pink flower on this card and was almost convinced on it, but then I decided to make new flowers in a different colour. This time I used Gina K cardstock in Sea Glass and Blueprint Sketch distress ink.
Construction
I took a piece of 5.5 x 5.5 card, edged it in black soot archival ink, and glued the front panel on to it. I then made a matching journal card sized piece for the inside and painted it too, adding another piece of Flirty Fleur paper to it and painting it to match, and distressing all the edges with black soot. Then I took the easel card base I had made, and glued the front and inside pieces to it, making sure all the edges matched and the card could stand up as with the previous cards.
Decoration
I made more flowers using Sea Glass cardstock and the Tattered Florals Bigz die, and left them overnight to dry out. Next day, once they were dry, I started to fold and crease and curl the petals on the biggest flower, and then glued it together, making a multiple layered flower. I had some leftover leaves and branches from another project that I decided to use behind the large flower. I glued them all down on the front of the card.
I diecut the little hummingbird which is a two layer die, painting the top layer with Opal Magic Violet-Green and Amethyst Metalliques. I sprayed the bottom layer with Prima Color Bloom in Cobalt, then glued the layers together. Then I made a little wire stand for the bird so it would be suspended over the flower, and attached that to the underside of the card.
I wanted to use some kind of birthday sentiment and considered stamping something but instead opted for the Tim Holtz Alphanumeric and Script Thinlits Alphabet dies in the 3/4 inch size which was perfect to fit on the card. I cut them out of a recycled gift box which was made of black satin cardboard then glued them onto the card.
Finishing Touches
The card was basically finished but just some finishing touches to highlight the letters with my polychromos white pencil to make them stand out more, and used a green polychromos to add veins to the leaves around the flower. Compare the photo above with the photo below to see what a difference this makes!
This card was make to go with the little Tiny Houses I made in the other post, there is kind of a garden / nature theme going on with this birthday which I hope she likes!
And as I mentioned on the other post, I received this pink crafty towel from Craftelier with one of my orders, so I took some photos of it to enter in the draw.

At the risk of sounding like a real grouch today, Stamping Sensations is a stamping challenge and that must form the focal element of your card (all listed on our rules and challenge post) and reading your post neither the Hummingbird or flower are stamps and they are clearly the focal elements.
