This is the third card I have made for the MFT annual Card Design Superstar contest. There are three categories, CAS Genius, Coloring Virtuoso, Innovation Master and this is my entry for the Coloring Virtuoso category.

The Finished Card

This card when together quite quickly after all the prep work was done – and by prep work I mean all the die cutting and then all the colouring of all the individual pieces. I only used one die set for this card, which included all the leaves and the birds which I made to look like Robins, since they will be visiting this neck of the woods in the coming months.  As there were no sentiments in the die set, I decided to make the word FALL out of the long fronds.  After that was decided, I knew there needed to be a robin perched on top!

Card details…

The background was created using the new Distress Oxide sprays in Twisted Citron and a dash of Seedless Preserves – I love the speckled pattern you can achieve with these sprays and so many colours emerge from Seedless Preserves – see those light blue speckles above the robins. The robins and all the leaves were painted using Distress Inks and a water brush. I love how my little robins turned out and how the brown and reds merged just right.  This is one of my favourite ways to use Distress Inks but it does take time to dry and then apply more layers of colour, especially to achieve the turning leaf effect.  I wanted the design of the finished card to look like a couple of robins were playing in a big pile of leaves, so the card is dimensional, as the leaves are rolled and curled and placed on the card so that they are not completely flat but lifting off the base.
