Hi Crafty Friends

I have another Halloween-inspired make for you today. This time it’s a little trinket box using the Eileen Hull Trinket Box die and lots of Tim Holtz goodies!

So here’s my finished box and I really love it.  It could be used for all manner of goodies, trinkets, jewellery, sweets, ATCs or 3 x 4″ journaling cards because they would all fit inside this little box!

It’s a very useful little die and can be used as a book, a box, a shadow box, a jewellery box and more.  There is another part of the die that cuts out a window in the top which I didn’t use this time, but it makes a nice little shadow box when you do.  I cut this box out of mat board and assembled it and then did. not. know. where I was heading with it – quelle surprise – I painted it with black gesso meantime.  I knew that I wanted to cover it in Tim Holtz Worn Wallpaper (the Halloween edition from last year).  When that was done, I played around with a few ideas including this one below.

See, I had this idea to use it like a book, in portrait mode, with the title at the bottom and this scary looking skull on the cover.  Now I do like it, otherwise I wouldn’t have made it after all, but it was a little too scary looking with the Creepy Eyes and actually starting to freak me out haha, I’m sure it was tracking my movements around the craft room lol.  Funny Not Funny!  So I scrapped that idea and decided to make something a little less scary.  I pulled out my Crypt Cameos that I got a couple of months ago and never used because actually mine were very faded as though they had been left in a sunny shop window for a few months.  I should have returned them but then I thought maybe they are all like that, and also because I always planned to paint them anyway, so I painted them with acrylics and they look so much better!

Now that I was using the cameos, I switched the orientation of the box to landscape so they could look at each other side by side, and I decided to frame them using this Stacked Baroque thinlits set to make a frame and the background.  I covered the frame in Ranger Mixed Media Powder in Pink Punch, and I cut the background from Tim Holtz Metallic Kraft Stock Jewels in black.  I covered the black with crackle paint to give it some texture and more interest and then I found this little heart leftover from the Tiny House project, and painted it with Enchanted Sparks paint, which is a pretty good match for the Ranger embossing powder.

While that was all drying, I used these little screws and bolts from my stash.  They are made from air dry clay and Finnabair moulds.  Glued them on the lid and then painted the whole box with Violet and Magenta liquid acrylics with a little silver mixed in.  I painted the hardware with Raven Black as I love how that looks with hardware.

I adhered the Cameo framed panel to the lid leaving room at the bottom for the Halloween quote chip and the one I chose was “hocus pocus” and that completed my little treat box.  Now I need to decide whether to gift it to my friend or keep it for myself as I do really love it!
