Hello friends and Happy April!
This page is entitled “Life is Better with cats” because let’s face it, life is better with cats and I can’t imagine life without them – especially when Spring is in the air and they can smell the freshness of everything growing outside. It’s an exciting time to be sure, and they definitely get an extra spring in their steps and twitch in their tails at this time of the year. Having said that, after a couple of weeks of lovely Spring weather, today as I am writing this post, the weather has turned cold (-3C) and we have just had a shower of hail! There is an old Scottish saying that goes “cast nae a cloot till May be oot” which basically means don’t start stripping off the winter layers till after the end of May, because weather like we are having today can happen at any time, and you could end up catching a cold!
today’s art. . .
I’ve very happy to share this art journal spread with you today as it is featured as my Guest Designer project for Creative Artiste’s Challenge #81 this month!
Creative Artiste is a Mixed Media challenge blog so I made sure to use lots of different mediums on my page.
The idea for this page was inspired by some food packaging shown in the photo above.
If you visited the blog last week, you would have seen this photo of the actual brownie bites! Tesco (supermarket) had repackaged their regular brownie bites in pretty Easter egg packaging (even though there is nothing particularly Easter about what was inside lol).
I started off by using this gel print of a pretty kitty that I did some time ago on one side of my spread and then the Easter packaging on the other side of the spread. I also had some doodling on some white card that I made using Dina Wakley’s Scribble Sticks and thought the colours would work together and the circles could also be more eggs.
The “Life is better with cats” quote is part of the stencil I used on the gel print, so I thought I would add to it with some extra words to match my Spring theme, so I die cut some letters out using the white card with Scribble Sticks I mentioned above and a Sizzix alphabet die set.
Once the letters were stuck down on to the page, I outlined them with a blackliner pen to make them stand out more.
I added some journalling in places and then date stamped the page with the date it was created.
Here’s a closer look at the page with more journalling in white page this time and all the extra Easter eggs cut out from the packaging and added to the page.
And here’s the finished spread! Hope you feel inspired to join in the challenge this month.
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

My late FIL always used that saying Elle as he pottered around in his allotment, I hope you and the Kitties have not had the snow the weatherman keeps telling us some parts of Scotland have had.
So nice to see you in the Creative Artiste Guest Seat this April, you’ve made good use recycling those wrappers. I especially love the eggs so bright and cheery as we all hope spring will be eventually. I do love that cat stamp.
Wishing you a creative month ahead and apologies i’m a little late, it’s a wee bit manic my end.. xx
Stunning. Love your art journal page Elle. Lovely pages. The theme and design are perfect. Thank you for being our guest artist this month at Creative Artiste. Judy DT
A wonderful journal spread Elle, so much loveliness. Gorgeous springtime colours, a pretty Scribble Sticks paper, a beautiful cat Gel print and fantastic doodled details.
Thank you for being a fabulously inspirational Guest Designer for us at Creative Artiste this month xx
Wow, what stunning pages! How you reused the packaging with all those eggs is amazing and the cat is perfect with the wording; the colours and design captured spring so beautifully ?. I love the Scottish saying too, isn’t that so true … my dad always used to say that the end of may is when the weather settles and there’s no chance of frosts too (smile!). Thanks so much for joining us at Creative Artiste as Guest Designer and for your fabulous inspiration! Take care and Happy April! Hugs Jo x
