Hello friends!
So here we are at the end of another week and ready for the weekend and so I have the Day 19 page I created however, half the photos are missing because my phone fell into my coffee and is currently in a bag with a lot of rice! I swear, this phone manages to fall off so many FLAT surfaces it’s getting ridiculous! So I will know in a day or so if everything is OK and I can get the rest of the photos off. I was in the middle of listening to a good book too!
Today’s Art . . .
For today’s art I am sharing the page for Day 19 of my #eotcartjournalaugust prompt which was COMPASS. Can you see the deliberate mistake?
Day 19 COMPASS #eotcartjournalaugust
Today I thought I would have a go at drawing a compass rose and got out my geometry tools and measured it up. There were/are photos of this but they are on the phone that is currently in the bag of rice! So let’s pretend we saw them and move on to the next stage 🙂

Managed to get the other photos off my phone so here they are…
As you can see, the “missing” line I mentioned is not really missing at all, it was drawn on there but somehow got covered over when I started painting.

After drawing it in pencil I went over it in pen before colouring it in with an assortment of black Pitt artist pens. Then I had to go out so I left it like that and when I came back painted the watercolour rainbow colours around it.
To finish off the page I wanted it to look like it was looking through torn paper and I was going to rip up some real paper and add it to the page but I wanted to keep the bulk down as much as possible so I tried to draw it to look like you were looking through the ripped paper to see the compass rose.
If you’ve got this far, you might have spotted the deliberate mistake lol. Look at the point between NE and E and you will see it. I didn’t see it at first and I’ve been looking at it all day haha. It’s fixed now but not in time for the photos.
The final step was to add the quote which the internet says is by Steven Covey.
So I am linking this page to Chris’s when we were young theme over on Art Journal Journey, the link for which is below. You might be wondering what a compass has to do with that, but it’s because it makes me think of my dad, and his compass. It was like treasure, and it had its own little case. I was fascinated by it and we used to take it with us sometimes on walks so I could practice directions, so I would never get lost, but most of the time it stayed safely tucked away in its little box and I was not allowed to play with it in case I broke it which probably would have happened as I had a habit of taking things apart to see how they worked lol..
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!

Until you mentioned it there was no mistake in your page. It’s a fab page Elle and I love the idea of thje torn paper, achieved a great look.
Hugs, Neet xx
Well, it’s a great page for my AJJ theme- I didn’t spot your mistake until you pointed it out! I love the rainbow colours. It’s a lovely memory of your Dad!
Wow, this page is amazing Elle. I didn’t see the mistake until you pointed it out either, but it certainly takes nothing away from your page. I do wish I had time to join in for your challenge. You have some super ideas. I haven’t had art time for over a week except for doodling in my daily journal, and I hope to change that this weekend. This page is perfect for Chris’ challenge at AJJ. Have a great weekend. Hugs-Erika
Wow! Your compass is fabulous Elle. I never would have noticed the mistake if you hadn’t pointed it out. A great quote too, and a lovely memory.
Happy Saturday,
Alison
