Hello Friends!

I had a really creative week last week, it was nice to do more regular art, which has been sadly missing from my life for months now.  One of the things I did was catch up with a monthly Instagram challenge that I started in February – and by started I mean that I made myself a little journal for it – and then didn’t get any further due to the whole injury thing.  It’s a challenge called #Scrappy8 run by eight people for eight months on Instagram, February to September.  So why not start it in August right lol.  (The same thing happened with my ICADs this year, I started them in week 6 of the 9 week challenge!  But hey I made it in the end.)

Today I am sharing the first two pages for that challenge, both of which I did last week.  The page above is the February page and the prompt was “Inspired by Art”.  I was inspired by Frida Kahlo, specifically her self-portraits.  Frida was done with a stencil, and the background was made up of a whole lot of my old gel prints using one leaf stencil but in multiple colours.  There is at least one self-portrait of Frida with a cat on her shoulder so I added one to this page, but mine came from some cat food packaging. I used some fussy cut birds and butterflies to surround her and added the floral head dress to her head.

This is actually an extra stamped image that was painted at least 5 years ago but has sat in a box all that time waiting to be used.  I fussy cut around it, chopped it up, and made it fit her head.

The second page I wanted to share is the March page, also made last week, and the prompt for that one was “Collage an Animal”.  Are you surprised that I chose to collage a cat?  No?  I didn’t think so 🙂  I pulled out a whole bunch of different orange patterned papers and tried to assemble my collaged cat to look like an orange tabby.  The eyes are made from citrus pattern paper using the limes from the paper and the whiskers are made from a green and black striped paper.  The background is made up of strips of some of my gel prints from earlier in the year.

These two pages live side by side in this little concertina booklet I created for this challenge.  In the next post I will share the next two pages which I also made last week – it was a really productive week for artyness.

This month Jo from Let’s Art Journal is hosting her theme “Wonderfully Wild” on Art Journal Journey.  I am linking this second page to AJJ for the wild bird or maybe you would also count the first page with the “wild” butterflies?  I would also like to include these pages in Creative Artiste’s challenge #107 this month, link below.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.   As always, thanks for reading and Happy Journalling!Ingredients

I love Freda and you’re just like me, keeping images in a box and eventually getting around to them. And I’m sure lots of people do that too-ha ha. Freda is very lovely. And I like how you collaged your kitty. That looks cool. Did you first make an outline on your page or just start putting down paper? Glad you had a good art week. It feels good when you haven’t said down for awhile to get back to making some art, doesn’t it? Have a great start to your new week, and thank for joining Jo’s challenge with both of this posts. I think I forgot to mention that in the comment I left. hugs-Erika
