Hi Friends!

Happy Tuesday!  Hope your week is going well! Nothing much has changed here and yes I am still on crutches because of the knee, but for extra fun my back has seized up and I can’t bend.  I am currently wearing a hard metal brace on my back which is making life more bearable but it is making me even slower than usual.  This happens every so often and it can last for days or sometimes weeks, and it is caused by nothing in particular – like yesterday I got up and sat in a chair that I always sit in but that did it!  Hopefully it will only last a few days this time but we have a vaccination appointment at the vets tomorrow for both Miss Lily and Mr G, and it was going to be difficult enough for me to get them in their carriers without me being even slower and unable to bend!  Fingers crossed they take pity on me and just walk right into their carriers!

National Cat Day / National Black Cat Day

Today is National Cat Day (29th) and Sunday (27th) was National Black Cat Day.  You might wonder why black cats need their own day, but they are nearly always the last to be adopted at shelters, partly due to superstitions and partly because people think they don’t photograph as well on social media!   Some countries associate black cats with bad luck and some with good luck.  They have always been considered lucky here.  As you know, I currently have two black cats, and one of my previous cats was also black and my most beloved soul cat.  I thought I would celebrate this day with some photos of Miss Lily and her brother, Mr G.

Today’s art . . . (after a fashion)

Today I am sharing a lamp that I upcycled last week.  It belonged to my Mum and it was used as a bedroom lamp.  It’s a nice lamp but I don’t have a use for a white lamp and I almost donated it, but then last week I realised that it would probably work in my house if it just wasn’t white.  I used a combination of chalk paints and metallic wax to paint the body of the lamp,  I’m keeping the white shade but you will see below that I made a temporary change for Halloween!

I picked up these little Halloween wooden shapes so I thought I would hang them on my lamp.

Can you see the fabric that is covering the table?  Here’s a better look…  It’s covered in beautiful black cats!  One of many cat-themed fabrics in my stash lol.

I am also crocheting some “Halloween” socks, so called because of the yarn colours of mostly purple and orange, but there are a few other cool colours in there too, black and white striping and pink. I haven’t got very far due to health issues and they will definitely not be finished for Halloween but the colours are amazing and they will make cool socks!

And here’s a look at some of my Halloween decorations, they are not on the whole, very “Halloween” and mostly about pumpkins and fall leaves.  Halloween for me is a traditional holiday, nothing at all to do with evil spirits or anything like that.  In fact it’s the opposite, but we always had fun dressing up and eating all the fun Halloween treats like toffee apples, fudge and treacle toffee.   If you want to know more about Scottish Halloween traditions, please check out this post from October 2022 – complete with illustrations as it was my AJJ hosting month at the time.

This little assortment sits on the shelf above my art table.  The little wind-up toys are years old, the tag is recent, and the board is changed monthly.

I love the LED pumpkin so much I bought two!  The little tealight/incense burner on the right was something I got in a sale last year – purchased of course, because of the little black cat peeking out of the top.

The black and white ceramic pumpkin is new and I loved the colours but also the design of the stalk.

I don’t remember why I have this but it was not for Halloween, however he is now, and look he has fun chocolate eyeballs!

Also not Halloween decor as this little kitty lives on my mantle year round.  He’s actually a tealight holder and the light shines through all those little holes.

Actual Halloween decor, bought this year in the supermarket, and it’s pretty sturdy so will last for many Halloweens.

I am also joining in with the Tea Ladies today, with a photo of this cool Addams Family inspired mug – it’s a Thing mug!

And because it is Halloween this week, I am resharing my Halloween tea from last week.  It has little sugar pumpkins and bats in it and some Autumnal flavours.

You have some great Halloween decorations Elle. I love that skull. He’s such fun, not scary, and the chocolate eyeballs are the perfect addition. Black cats must be like black dogs when it comes to adoption. And that stinks about your back. Sorry to read that. I hope you feel better very very soon at least back-wise. Any idea when things will be better with your knee.. I hope you had a great T day, and ‘m sharing your card on my blog on Halloween. I hope it was a super T day. hugs-Erika

I love all your black cat things. The best thing that happened to me was being owned by a black cat for 19 years. I love my other kitties, but Ink was special. Oh, my the black cat fabric is awesome! Happy Black Cat Day, Cat Day, and T Day

I am sorry to read about your back. I can truly empathize.

What a great makeover of that lamp. I like how you turned it into a Halloween lamp.

When I got Squiggles at the Humane Society, they didn’t have any black kitties, or I would have been tempted. Yours are so photogenic and not afraid of the camera.

Your mantel is decorated beautifully. We are setting heat wave records, so I would love it to be a bit cooler.

I love your Thing mug! It is a sign of the times. And I would really love to find that Witches Brew. Thanks for sharing your lamp, mantel, kitties, socks, and mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Elle.

Boy, I am sorry to read this.
Health is … oh. So valuable.

I had a colleague with two beautiful black cats and she sent me pics very often.
I read people don´t like them because they are hard to take pics of – what nonsense.

That mug is my fav!!! WANT!!! LOL. Happy T-Day!

I’m sorry your back is playing up. How inconvenient! I hope your lovely fur babies will get into their carriers without a murmur.
I didn’t know it was cat-day today. and black cat day too soon.
I love your ‘Thing’ mug! and your great stove. Mine is lit too as we are having a cold spell.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
