Hi Friends!
I have the last three pages from my #NoSewNovember journal to share with you today and I am sharing them today instead of a the end of the month, because things are getting busy. I was back at the hospital this week and yes I am still on crutches till my next appointment in January, so it’s a little disappointing that I will be like this over Christmas.
Today’s art . . .
Today I am sharing the final pages (days 28-30) from this month’s journal created for #NoSewNovember Instagram challenge hosted by @megjournals, and this time I have managed to make ALL THREE PAGES also work for Wendy’s theme of On, In or By the Sea over on Art Journal Journey using the daily prompts.
Day 28 – loop
For the loop prompt I started with one of the watercolour backgrounds I created at the beginning, and at the time I had no idea what prompt this was going to work with – if any. But as you can see all the little fishes are loops with loop tails, so I think it works quite well. This was a neocolour white crayon resist, with watercolour, and then Jane Davenport mermaid marker painted around the outside and TH mica stain splattered across the page. I wrote IN THE LOOP with a black pen and a white gel pen.
(watercolour background, white crayon resist, Jane Davenport mermaid markers, black pen, white gel pen, Tim Holtz mica stain, )
Day 29 – overlay
For the overlay prompt I had to think about it for quite a while. I knew it was coming up soon but I had no ideas. Then when I was clearing out some old folders full of recipes (from 1990s magazines!!!) I had this empty A4 plastic sleeve and thought, hang on a minute… so I cut it down to size, cutting the bottom and side off which gave me two pages instead of a pocket, and then started to assemble my underwater scene by stamping and colouring the fish on different layers. I ended up covering the white plastic binding with some goldfish washi tape. It was the only relevant washi tape I had in my stash. (note to self: find some fishy washi tape!) Here’s a look at all three layers separately, and then I also did a little video which should make it easier to see what I did.
(watercolour background, leftover diecuts and other bits, fish stamps from Paperartsy, stazon ink, alcohol markers, gel pen, double sided tape, glue, goldfish washi tape, plastic sleeve )
Here’s the video (22 seconds)
Day 30 – fasten
Another one that stumped me because I was trying to make it work for both challenges. So again it took me a while to come up with an idea. In the end, I knew I wanted to use this leftover Christmas card I had made from a couple of Christmases ago (2020) and this was the last day I could use it in this journal. This was made during a free lesson as part of Kaleidoscope taster week 2020 and the original painting I made was a 12 x 12 inch watercolour, which I then scanned and reduced and printed to make my cards that year. So I had extras of the card size left over and although she is supposed to be a fairy or something, I thought she could probably make a pretty good mermaid.
So as you can see the original card was a small square and I wanted to add a mermaid tail to her to give her a bottom half. I tried to use most of the same materials as I used for the original. Then for the FASTEN prompt I used two tiny brads to connect the two pieces together – the mermaid to her tail. I tried to disguise the brads a little by drawing in some buttons, due to the unfortunate placement of the brads LOL.
(printed christmas card, watercolour pencils, polychromos pencils, gold gel pen, white posca, glue, small brads, TH cello stickers, )
This is my last post for November and the last three pages for #nosewnovember (IG) and Wendy’s theme of On, In or By the Sea on my blog. Thanks Wendy for a fun theme, I really enjoyed making all these Sea-related pages – I managed 18 Sea-related pages in the end! Here’s how the finished journal looks now, I still have to work out a cover, but as you can see, it’s a chunky journal for November!
Let me know what you think in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and Happy journalling!Ingredients

Art Journal Journey – On, In or By the Sea
I’m in total awe of these last three days. My favorite is the fish,. but they are all great. Thanks also for the mermaid you created for Wendy’s theme at AJJ.
Your journal looks great Elle. Didn’t Wendy pick a great challenge? It was fun. Sorry to read you have to wait until January. That still seems like a long ways off, but of course it’s not. I love the little fish swimming upstream, and I love the flip layers in the middle spread. I remember books like that.So your clear covers from the 1990’s fit right in. Grin I hope you’re having a great weekend. We now have snow, and it’s going to be chilly but maybe by now it’s warmed up. Thanks for joining Wendy so many times this month . hugs-Erika
Luv the no sew pages. Have a good weekend.
What a fabulous last three pages and what a lovely journal to have made. Thank you so much for all your support over the last month, hugs Wendy. Have a lovely Christmas.
