Hi Friends!
Happy Thursday, hope you are all doing well. I have an art journal spread to share with you today, really two pages that hopefully work together as a double spread.
Today’s art . . .
This is also a page for Erika’s theme of Spring Birds on Art Journal Journey.
This page started off as a bonus entry to MTW’s new Instagram challenge where the week two prompts were M – wings, T – watercolour and W – fly. This is not my week to create for the DT so I was just playing with the free printable and came up with this page using the angel statue and the blue wings. The black wings in the background come from the very large perspective butterfly die from Sizzix and Tim Holtz. I did some colouring and shading on the printables and then glued them down to the page. The giant butterfly die was already cut for something else and didn’t use.
So I had painted the full sheet of paper with this Daniel Smith watercolour – I forget the name of the colour – it’s not cobalt violet, but something similar to that – and then uploaded my page to Instagram. But then I had the left hand side still blank. I thought since I had everything out and I was still at my table, I would keep going and do something for the other side.
I wanted to join in the Spring Birds challenge over on AJJ as I had only managed to join in once so far. I had this quote printed out from the Art Stacks free challenge printable so I wanted to use it and then did some stamping using some fairly old/retired Finnabair/Prima stamps (three different sets). I used my Pitt artist pens to colour the roses and left everything else in black. I did a little bit of masking on the leaves so the bird could sit on there, then outlined the quote and was done. You might also notice in the background that there are a lot of butterflies and dragonflies stamped all over the entire spread. They kind of blend into the background and I keep forgetting they are there lol. Here’s a look at the pages as single pages.
I am also joining Creative Artiste for challenge #114 where I am currently the Guest Designer for this month. Challenge links are below. Let me know what you think in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and Happy journalling!Ingredients

Gorgeous journal pages Elle. The extra butterfly wings look fabulously dramatic and really help the blue wings to pop. The soft pink butterflies and dragonflies on the left hand page add wonderful detail behind the vintage stamps.
Thank you for joining in with our April challenge “Anything Mixed Media Goes” at Creative Artiste Mixed Media. Good luck! x

Hugs Elke (Lebensglück)
Both pieces are gorgeous!- foxy stamping- Sharon
I love your angel and the addition of the extra wings. She has a pensive look on her face that makes me believe she really is learning to fly.
The other page has a brilliant quote which I have firmly in my head at the moment.
Hugs, Neet xx
ps hope you are well and without those crutches
This is stunning Elle. And I think the pages work together well. I love the expression on the lady on the left. That’s a cool stamped image. And wow to the butterfly winged woman on the right. That’s a great layering of wings. I may have to “borrow” that idea of using the big butterfly in the background. I like it a lot. Thanks for joining at AJJ. It’s appreciated. Have a great weekend ahead, and if you celebrate Easter, I hope you have a wonderful holiday. hugs-Erika
What a charming double page spread. I think they both work well together. I LOVE the butterfly die and the way you added the birds on the left side to the roses. This is a fabulous entry for Erika’s theme at AJJ, dear Elle.
We all have our wings.
