Here I am again with another experimental pop up card using balloons – the obsession continues lol. So after the last pop up balloon birthday card, I thought I would try another angle and instead of having the balloons float above the card when it was standing up, I would try and make it so that the balloons would pop up when the card was open, so there would be no real decoration on the outside of the card and for display, you would have to have it propped open so that the inside was on display rather than the outside. It’s really the same idea as this pop up card but with balloons instead of cats.
I cut a whole load of these petals again but this time from glitter card and affixed them to strips of acetate.
Then I experimented with various means of attaching them, how strong it would need to be to hold them upright, positioning and length of the acetate strips so they didn’t stick out beyond the card when it was closed etc.
This one seemed ok until I tried to close the card and the balloons were too long. Yes I could have left it as is and just cut the acetate shorter but who wants short balloons, right?
This is just right as Goldilocks would say.
I attached the balloons and the acetate to the back, and notched out the tips of the balloons (petals) to make them more balloon-like, and tied on the baker’s twine. Btw this card is green and white for a reason and has everything to do with a certain football team 🙂
I wanted to add something to the front of the balloons so I used the Altenew Caps Bold Alphabet die to cut HAPPY in green glitter to match the balloons and glued them in front.
And that’s the finished card.
