Make it Bright – Distress Oxide Backgrounds and Lavinia Stamps

Still using my mountain of distress oxide rainbow backgrounds, I decided to create a set of cards using some of my Lavinia Stamps that I bought last year.

Here’s a small part of my stash!

I decided to use some of my rainbow backgrounds which you can see more of in this Distress Oxide Background post.

I had such fun making these and now I have A TON of backgrounds at my fingertips!

For the first card, I chose this horizonal background that felt kind of sunset-y to me, and I stamped this tree on the sides – there’s a left facing and right facing version so you could actually line them up together to make one full tree if you wanted.

 

I used the cat stamp, the small fairy and dragonfly stamps and stamped them in black like the trees.  Then I painted a circle with versamark ink and a paintbrush and then covered it with White Glitter embossing powder and melted it with my trusty heat gun.  I used Nuvo drops to add some little drops around the sky section.  Oh and I also decided that I needed some ground, so I stamped a mask for the cat, and then swiped a grass green ink pad across the bottom using a homemade stencil made from cardboard.  Then I took a fine paintbrush and drew blades of grass using the same ink pad.

 

For the second card, I used yet another rainbow background and started stamping these thistle-y looking plants at the top and bottom of the card.  I used an acrylic block for this so I could bend the stalks and make them look more organic.  I stamped them in Wild Lilac ink by Gina K.

Then I stamped the big fairy with the lantern, the little dancing fairies and the small individual fairies in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  Then I highlighted them with Wink of Stella.

My third card has a different orientation, since I just wanted to use the one crouching fairy in the centre.  Stamped this time in Gina K In the Navy dark blue ink, along with the curly plants and dandelion-like stamps.

The fourth and final card is this one, using another of those backgrounds but this time, the background is only blue and green.  I wanted to use this text background stamp in the middle and I had this idea of trying it with Midas embossing powder to see how it would look.  Then I added the fairy with the wand on the left and the fairy with the horn on the right, but the middle felt so empty, so I decided to stamp the cat again and then finished it off with the cherry blossom, all in Onyx Black.

UPDATED: I submitted these cards to Lavinia’s monthly challenge that I discovered accidentally – isn’t it amazing how serendipitous the internet can be? – and decided I would try it out as I bought quite a few Lavinia Stamps last year (see Spring Cards 2018) and it sounds like fun!  This challenge is a little different in that you just have to upload the photos on their website before the 25th of the month, so I finally uploaded the finished images on 22nd.
