Hi friends!

Today I am sharing this altered box which I made for Bleeding Art’s June Challenge DT inspiration.  Bleeding Art is all mixed media all the time and always anything goes, so why not enter this month’s challenge.

Inspiration

My inspiration really came when I looked at a few different things I was working on and started to wonder how it would look if I combined them into one project!  So why not try and and see what happens?

Overview of Process

I’m using this Cream Paste from Stamperia in my shallow mould.  It looks a bit like Polyfilla but maybe a little smoother and runnier 🙂

I had put it in a couple of moulds just to see how it would turn out compared to other mould making materials.  Here’s how it looks when it’s dry and you can peel it out of the mould.  It’s very flexible which is great if you want to use it on something that isn’t flat.

Here’s another look at some of the moulds demoulded.  I also used the Sea World octopus mould with some air dry clay but I only did the parts that I wanted and not the whole octopus.

While all the mouldings were drying, I started working on this box.  This is an A5 black gift box from my stash.  I used this great IndigoBlu stencil and texture paste and when it was dry, I painted it with Paperartsy Fresco paints in Aquamarine and Beach Hut.  Once that was all dry I got to do my favourite part – the heat embossing!  This time I used these Seth Apter Baked Textures from Emerald Creek – Patina Oxide and Ancient Amber. I skipped the bits in the middle of the box as they would be covered so no point in wasting my precious!

Time for my other favourite activity – painting!

Here’s a closer look at the mould after painting and still very flexible.  I don’t have any more process photos to show you as I guess either my camera overheated and shut down again or I was so involved in what I was doing that I just forgot lol.

So instead, here’s a look at a few different angles of the box.

Loving the effect of this stencil and the heat embossing.

And here is the finished Augmented Octopus Box.

Thoughts

I really enjoyed making this project and had a lot of fun along the way, not sure exactly where I was going with it but just having a general idea of what I wanted to achieve.  Thanks for making it all the way to the end.  Let me know what you think of the Augmented Octopus in the comments below.

From stash: A5 gift box, metal gears and cogs, air dry clay, gel medium, texture paste,

I started something new for April and continuing:

Since we are all stuck inside and can’t leave the house, I thought I would try and do two things:
1. use this time to finish any unfinished projects
2. use as much recycled materials as possible (I do this a lot anyway) but also not to buy new stuff!
So, with that in mind, I will note the above on any posts, if applicable.
UNFINISHED PROJECT – NO
RECYCLED MATERIALS – YES – old gift box,

Scrumptious textures (love that they go all around the edges too) and your steampunk octopus creature is a triumph of the imagination.
