Hello friends,
I was rushing to get this finished and photographed while there was still some daylight left. Phew, just made it! The reason for the rush is of course because it is Wednesday today and I thought it made sense for my Wednesday Addams page to be posted on Wednesday, and this is the last Wednesday before Halloween, so it was today or else.
today’s journal page . . .
Today’s spread is inspired by Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family. She’s my favourite though they are all pretty great characters. It’s a great movie to watch at Halloween if you were looking for something spooky but not scary, and definitely funny.
I started working on this one last night before we went to bed. Not the best time to be drawing as the light is very poor in the studio and I felt like I was squinting at it the whole time lol. This is how I left it last night…
It’s a bit of a messy sketch, you can still all the eraser dust all over it as well as a lot of lines that still needed to be swept away. I usually forget to take photos while I’m drawing as I tend to just keep going while I’m in the moment, but since I had to stop last night, I remembered to take one.
This morning I was up early (in the dark) to start painting her. I used watercolours and Polychromos pencils on her face, Pitt pens on her hair, paint pens on her dress and a very watered-down Paynes Grey fluid acrylic on the background.
I got out some calligraphy pens to try and write her name in a style that looked like the Addams Family font from the movie titles. I was going to continue doing that to copy out some of Wednesday’s quotes but I was short of time and wouldn’t have finished in time to take the photos today in daylight. I did find a cool site though that generated your text in various fonts including one that is similar to the movie font, so I used that to type out my quotes and then print them off. The cool thing about this site is that it gives you the embed code if you wanted to use them on your own website, like this…
The site is called Font Meme and if you want to play with it, here is the link. Did this save me any time in the end? Hmm, maybe, probably, but I did spend a lot of time playing around with the font generator and I nearly lost all the light.
After I printed the quotes out, I mounted them on this black corrugated card I’ve had for years. I don’t even know what’s it’s for or why I bought it lol. You can see a bit of it at the top of the photo below, it’s rounded on one side, so I cut the rounded bit off to make rectangular backgrounds for the quotes and then used the leftover bits down the sides of the page so as not to waste them.
Hope you enjoyed the post. The Addams Family is currently on Netflix if you feel like watching something fun this Halloween. Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

I love this font you chose and Wednesday is actually beautiful. I’m not exactly familiar with the Addams Family, so I thought this was genius. Thanks for another great journal spread using Tracey’s theme at AJJ.
