Hello friends,
Hope your weekend is going well? So far we have been pleasantly doing nothing much but lazing around and staying warm. Our clocks change tonight, I remember that now but I am bound to forget later on lol. I have my second post to share for Saturday though, as I am trying to complete all 31 October pages so I can bind my journal together. Technically I have already done over 31 pages this month (at least double my usual volume) but some of them are in a different (larger) book. When I realised that I had so many pages that were October inspired, I decided to put them all together in the same book which just happened to mean I would have 31 pages once it was bound.
today’s journal page . . .
Today’s spread is inspired by another favourite Halloween movie – Hocus Pocus! The plot of this movie is as follows… 300 years have passed since the Sanderson sisters were executed for practicing dark witchcraft. Returning to life thanks to a combination of things, the sisters have only one night to secure their continuing existence unless some plucky kids stop them… Fun for all the family!
This page was one that I didn’t paint ahead of time, so it was just plain, bumpy, cold pressed watercolour paper. I did my sketch in pencil then went over it it in waterproof pen. It was lucky I did this as I didn’t have any plans to do anything watery at this stage, but ended up doing the background in very watery paint, so I’m glad it didn’t all run.
The Sanderson Sisters are coloured with a combination of Pitt artist brush pens, polychromos pencils and paint pens, but most of it is done with the Pitt pens. They are all waterproof so I knew I was safe to do something watery with the background and nothing would run.
I used Neocolor IIs and a lot of water to make the background.
I don’t think it looks anything like Bette Midler or SJP, but I think it looks a bit like Kathy Najimy, maybe. A little bit. At least as a witch in this movie. LOL. I have another page that I am working on, that is also about another Halloween movie. There is actually a sneak peek of it in the above photo. You can just see the page below peeking out, and it might just be enough to guess what it is.
The only thing left to do was to add the title which I drew freehand with a yellow paint pen and tried to make it look like the movie font. It wasn’t showing up very well on its own so I outlined it with a black pen. “It’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus” is a line from the movie.
Let me know what you think in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients
