Avast me hearties!

Did you know that today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day?  Arrrrr land-lubbers I am so tempted to write the whole post in Pirate speak but I will spare you this time.  In times gone by we used to use a program on our book group site that changed some words into Pirate speak haha good times!  This fun day has influenced today’s project which is a tag for Tag Tuesday’s current challenge – Recycle and Reuse.

With that in mind, I started thinking about my tag and pulled out an old Tesco magazine and found some pages that I thought would work, like this one with the sandy footprints and the shells.

Then I used an old amazon box to cut a tag using a tag die.

Here’s my shortlist of magazine bits that I wanted to use.  I didn’t use them all in the end, but I liked the Starbucks mermaid, but the green background didn’t work with the rest of the pieces.

After collaging all the magazine bits – sandy feet, shells, palm trees and water for my tropical island hideaway, I edged the tag with some gold paint and added some gold splatters over the tag to make the pirates happy.

I used some white card scraps and wrote out the eight R’s of recycling – REDUCE, REUSE, REPAIR, RECYCLE, RECOVER, RE-GIFT, REFUSE, RETHINK – then glued them onto my page, and outlined them with a black pencil.

To finish off my tag, I added some blue and white baker’s twine which I re-used from this earlier tag.   These Pirate Treasure coins are some that I made a few years ago and I pulled them out of the treasure chest especially for today!

If you want to join in with Talk like a pirate day and discover your inner pirate, here is a fun Pirate Name Generator you can try…

Hope you enjoyed this one!  Let me know what you think in the comments.   As always, thanks for reading!Ingredients

What a delightful read! My facebook page is in pirate speak and has been for years. Arrrr! My pirate name is Mad Anne Flint (but I don’t believe it!). I was intrigued by some of the Rs…recover, regift, refuse, rethink. Wasn’t familiar with those. Love your tag! I have a collage/dream board which has the phrase ‘Off chasing pirates!’ on it. A great reminder for when life is just too serious!

Hi Elle, love your fun pirate tag! I’ve unfortunately forgotten pirate speak, but it’s a wonderful idea. Love the ‘pieces of eighf’, too. Thanks for joining us at Tag Tuesday, much appreciated. Have a great new week, hugs, Valerie

Elle I like your tag. I never thought to use old Amazon boxes for tags or anything else. Good idea. Very creative.
